OG 12th Data Sufficiency 101-120

Question 101 – “Material A costs $3 per kilogram…”
OG Explanation is fine. You could also take a weighted average approach for statement 2. If the 10 kg were all A, x=10, and the cost would be $30. If the 10kg were all B, y=10, and the cost would be $50. If there were equal amounts of A and B the cost would be $40. Because the cost is less than $40, this tells us there is more of the cheaper material A and thus x > y.

Question 109 – “In triangle ABC, point X is the midpoint…”
OG Explanation is okay. To explain the logic in statement 1: Triangle ABX and ABC share the same height and since X is the midpoint of AC, AX is half the length of AC. Triangle ABC has the same height but twice the base of ABX; therefore the area of triangle ABC is 64. Because AB is parallel to RS, the angles of the triangles will be the same and we have similar triangles. SC is 1/4th the length of BC. So we can scale it find the area of RSC.

OG Explanation is fine.

Question 111 – “A department manager distributed a number of pens…”
OG Explanation is fine.

Question 112 – “Machines X and Y produced identical bottles at different…”
OG Explanation is okay. In this problem, we need to figure how what portion of the lot did X produce. Statement 1 does not tell how much of the total lot X produced and therefore is INSUFFICIENT. Statement 2 tells us that Machine X produced twice as many bottles in 4 hrs than machine Y in 3 hrs. This means that machine X alone did 2/3 of the lot in 4hrs. This means is would it take machine X alone 6 hours to finish the lot. SUFFICIENT.
